Hi,
My name is Nicole. I’m 22 years old. I live and grew up in New Jersey. I wanted to make this website since I’ve struggled with sensory issues my whole life. I was born with pervasive developmental disorder (also know as mild autism). That being said, from a young age I always needed to touch everything.
Having something in my hands to play with was always soothing and stress relieving. In school as a kid I could never concentrate because I could never sit for long enough. I needed to use plenty of stress balls, putty, play dough, etc. From a young age with the guidance of therapists, I made myself sensory boxes filled with different things for me to use when I needed to. Some of those things could of been as simple as a scrub brush to rub up and down my arms. As the years went by, my parents, counselors and I found many commercial products out there which assisted me much better than my homemade sensory box contents.
I’ve also always have had high anxiety. Sometimes something as simple as holding a grounding stone can ease a lot of unnecessary stress by helping to bring me back to the here and now. Even going out in public and into stores, I need to touch everything that looks remotely fluffy, silky or soft. Touch is not the only sense you can use when you’re looking into sensory products.
There’s products out there which include experiencing senses such as touch, smell, sight, taste and even sounds that can be just as therapeutic as physically touching something. I personally love using all kinds of different products that incorporate all different types of my senses. My personal favorite way to incorporate sensory play besides touch is smell. This is because I love doing aromatherapy. The best part is there are so many different individual essential oils and blends that create a unique and uplifting experience.
The possibility’s are truly endless with sensory processing! Considering all of this, my ultimate goal for this website is that it can give you the resources you need to have an outlet for your sensory processing needs. Some of the products which I recommend here have been very helpful to me over the years. Hopefully, you and your loved ones can get the same relief which sensory products have and continue to give me.
